AGPAL Accredited General Practice

What is AGPAL?

AGPAL stands for Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited.

AGPAL is an independent, not – for – Profit Company and is not part of the government. AGPAL’s aim is to improve the quality of health care provided to all Australians.

What is AGPAL Accreditation?

AGPAL Accreditation lets you know that a general practice has met standards of safety and quality. AGPAL Accreditation is voluntary.

The benefits of AGPAL Accreditation

By meeting the Standards and gaining AGPAL Accreditation, a general practice shows that it:
  • Respects your rights and needs
  • Is a safe place for your care
  • Is committed to improving your health
  • Has good knowledge of sterilisation
  • Is committed to ongoing education and training
Who sets the Standards?

AGPAL independently assesses General Practices against a strict set of criteria called The Standards for General Practices.

The Standards are set by one of Australia’s most important doctor’s organisations, the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). The College involves a wide range of people, including consumers, when it sets the Standards.

What are the standards?

All practices with the AGPAL Accredited logo must meet the Standards which are designed to protect the patient.

The Standards covers areas such as:

  • The practice equipment and how it is used
  • Continuing education for doctors and staff
  • Access and availability to medical care
  • Safety within the practice
  • The security of your information
  • Your rights when you use a general practice
How does AGPAL check that general practices meet the Standards?

AGPAL sends two people, called surveyors, to assess the general practice.

The surveyors are specially trained to help the practice team think about ways to improve what they are doing.

The surveyors send back information to AGPAL for a decision as to whether the general practice meets the Standards and can become AGPAL Accredited!

The doctors and staff at Mawson Lakes Healthcare are proud to have met these standards.
